Saturday, January 15 - Koh Lanta (2) - The southern beaches and Old City

This morning I not fishing. I turn around. I took a breakfast for 120 baht Continental. The cheaper it is on the map. The sea is still as violent. It's nice. The rain, the storm of the night, are gone. Domi and Christian sleep later in the morning. I wonder what I'll do well again at Lanta, it does not please me at all.

When they came to breakfast, they talked about the idea of renting a taxi for the three of us to visit the south coast. They say the southern beaches are the best. But the road ends at Kantiang, and after, they say, is a dirt track, lasts and lasts.

We try to negotiate, it's always very hard to lower prices. A guy who has a tuk tuk explains that although we can not get there by tuk tuk on the runway from the south, and that we need to rent a car, and finally a taxi car. And it is with him that makes the price. 700 baht for car, home and away. By sharing three, it becomes possible. But you see the difficulty when traveling solo, you can not do anything, everything is too expensive for one person.

The phone guy So another. And what we see happen? the taxi to our hotel, the kind with two parallel benches songteo, who had come to meet us at the pier when they landed on the island. C is in this vehicle that we will face the runway. The driver very nice stops on the way and take his wife and son at the front with him all the way, just for the ride.

Our little young French couple with whom we had bound, rented a bike, a beautiful bright yellow motorcycle. On the road, they found themselves behind our car, and it was not so easy that for them to run on that track.

THE BEACHES OF SOUTH

There are two beautiful beaches. The first is called Klong Jaak. We really liked it. Very wild. There were waves but not as strong as our hotel.

We meet a group of French, who themselves, staying at some distance away, and came on a motorcycle. It bathes and swimming was very good.

At Klong Jaak, there is a hotel. We'll see. The bamboo huts are 400 baht. It's precarious. But it was on the beach, or almost. Here are the phone: 081 737 September 1980
Who wants to be on a beach surrounded by nature ... Motorcycle indispensable and dirt roads ....

Then we want to see the latest South Beach, Mai Pai, which means Bamboo Beach. We must take a very very bad road. The driver drops us off at the entrance of a resort, a luxury resort, Baan Phu Lae 075 665 100. There are a lot of people in this Resort. The decor of the garden is beautiful. And c is very short very expensive, so that the coffee Domi and Christian their costs 90 baht (normally 40).

We also went swimming, but we do have a soft spot for the beach before.

Back at the hotel. It is in the 14:30 (noon it was gone, in fact, it went very quickly, we did not know how long we could keep this car for the price we had rented)

We decided Next, try to rent a tuk tuk this time is that because of the paved road, to visit the Old City. Otherwise known as Ban Raya If. It is the oldest town in Lanta.

was almost as expensive as renting a car south. We got a tuk tuk for 300 baht one way, he gave 100 baht for which we wait, and again 300 baht for the return. Well all that divided by three, it helps.

The road across the island from west to east, is very good. We pass through some very lush vegetation. At least it gives us a better idea of what the island. Many of nature at its center. But without a bike, you can not walk around. There are many small villages on the road, but everything is enormous space, and the same, we can not go anywhere on foot. Always a means of transport is necessary, and local transportation are expensive here. We need to charter.

THE OLD CITY

The time has covered. He falls a few drops, not bad. The city has retained its traditional wooden houses, similar to those I knew in Trat and Krabi Town.

It is beachfront, on the other side, East side. No beaches here. This is the side boats and piers.

There restaus above the sea on stilts. This is where we ... late lunch, around nearly 17 hr.

I take a Panang curry chicken, good but not very rich. Also in the price of Lanta in the 160 baht. Then after a last little trip, we joined our tuk tuk waiting for us and we leave earlier than expected.

In return we decided to buy our ferry tickets for tomorrow Koh Pradan morning. We chose the ferry company 9 hrs Princess because it is a slow ferry, there is no hurry, and the following schedule, the 11-hr is the speedboat company Tiger line, and is much more expensive. We paid 400 baht with the pick-up included at the hotel at 8:20 tomorrow morning.

the evening, I have not had dinner, we had "lunch" too late. Only a few cakes that I had left before I sleep.

Silver award-winning vists my day off depression of the first day Lanta. I was glad to have seen something Lanta, anyway. But I have not had any crush on this island, nor for its beaches.
